Description
The Method is applicable only to products containing low-levels of sulphite, such as that found in white sugars and speciality sugars (with the exception of brown sugars) and is used to determine the sulphite content by absorbance. The absorbance of a solution prepared via an enzymatic procedure is measured at either 340 or 334 nm and corrected. The Method has Official Status and if a choice of Method is available then ICUMSA recommends that Method GS2-33 is used preferentially. For white sugars between 4.02 mg/kg and 23.84 mg/kg sulphite the absolute difference between two results obtained under repeatability conditions should be in the range of 1.17 mg/kg to 6.49 mg/kg and under reproducibility conditions in the range of 1.74 mg/kg to 14.58 mg/kg.
