Description
This Method is applicable only to sugarcane prepared using a hydraulic press for determination of the polarimetric sucrose content, soluble dry substance content and fibre content of sugarcane. Polarimetry, refractometry and gravimetry procedures are used to measure sucrose, soluble dry substance and fibre contents in prepared sugarcane. This Method may be used by cane sugar factories for cane payment. Interlaboratory testing was not appropriate for the sample type, but the Method was validated using single lab method validation (SLMV). For sugarcane samples with a polarimetric sucrose content of (8 to 15) °Z, the absolute difference between two results obtained under repeatability conditions should not be greater than 0.3 °Z and not greater than 1.1 °Z under reproducibility conditions. For sugar cane samples with a soluble dry substance content of (10 to 18) g/100 g, the absolute difference between two results obtained under repeatability conditions should not be greater than 0.3 g/100 g and not greater than 1.3 g/100 g under reproducibility conditions. For sugar cane samples with a fibre content of (9 to 22) g/100 g, the absolute difference between two results obtained under repeatability conditions should not be greater than 0.6 g/100 g and not greater than 1.6 g/100 g under reproducibility conditions.
