Description
This Method is applicable cane raw sugar only but may be appropriate for other products (if validation of use is performed) for the determination of total, soluble and insoluble starch content. Absorbance is used to measure the total and soluble starch contents of a cane raw sugar sample solution after microwave energy and acid-based neutralisation. Insoluble starch content is the difference between total and soluble starch contents. No interlaboratory testing has yet been performed but the Method was validated using single lab method validation (SLMV). For cane raw sugar samples with a total starch content of (122.6 to 3333.0) mg/kg, the difference between two results obtained under relative standard deviation of repeatability conditions should not be greater than 2.3%. For cane raw sugar samples with a soluble starch content of (122.6 to 3333.0) mg/kg, the difference between two results obtained under relative standard deviation of repeatability conditions should not be greater than 2.0%. For cane raw sugar samples with an insoluble starch content of (122.6 to 3333.0) mg/kg, the difference between two results obtained under relative standard deviation of repeatability conditions should not be greater than 9.4%.
