Description

This Method is applicable to freshly produced and/or frozen sugar beet brei for the determination of the contents of potassium and sodium. Flame photometry is used to measure both potassium and sodium contents of a brei sample solution after clarification with aluminium sulphate. Beet brei samples may be produced from harvested beet or comminuted cossettes. The range of measurement for this Method is (3 to 80) mmol/kg potassium content and (1 to 50) mmol/kg sodium content, in sugar beet. For sugar beet of average potassium content of 37.29 mmol/kg the maximum repeatability limit is 1.56 mmol/kg and under reproducibility conditions the maximum limit is 7.51 mmol/kg. For sugar beet of average sodium content of 6.92 mmol/kg the maximum repeatability limit is 0.84 mmol/kg and under reproducibility conditions the maximum limit is 2.72 mmol/kg.
