The operation of a Roto-Louvre-type cylinder drier for drying and cooling sugar was investigated. A simplified global heat-engineering model describing the service of the drier was established in order to find the relationships existing between the sugar and air mass flows. The heat-engineering model includes an optimization algorithm, which makes it possible to find the minimum energy consumption when several input and output parameters are changed. An example is considered.
