Ensilage of pressed beet pulp

Ensiling pressed beet pulp in 100–500 t pits is common practice and enables stable long-term storage of the pulp when the silage is done according to the standard procedure recommended for this purpose. Storage of much bigger volumes of pressed pulp is more challenging with respect to a stable preservation. Nevertheless, there is practical experience on how to overcome the main issues with long-term storage of pressed pulp in much (10 times) bigger pits, which will be touched on in this paper. In addition, there is growing interest in using plastic tubes, so-called Ag bags or pulp sausages, for ensiling pressed pulp. The main features of this relative new techniques will be mentioned.
