Sugar losses in the storage and processing of sugar beets Part 1: Studies to determine beet mass and sugar losses in beet storage

The sugar losses in the beet sugar industry of the Ukraine, determined by monitoring and calculations under operating conditions, are described, as are the results of special studies on the storage and processing of sugar beets with a proportion of up to about 30% of mechanically heavily damaged roots. Particular attention is devoted to the respiration intensity of machine-harvested sugar beets as well as to the causes of beet mass and sugar losses between storage and processing.
