Ammonia emissions from sugar beet processing, both air and water, are expected to be of greater regulatory interest in the near future. In 1996 the ammonia emission of the Worland sugar factory of Holly Sugar (slice rate 3 600 t/d) were determined at 14 locations within the factory by HPLC. 56 % of the ammonia emissions took place in 3rd evaparator effect followed by the 2nd effect with 15 %.
