For various reasons, little use is made at present of pulp separation from the raw juice, although it offers several technological advantages. Multistage filtration is presented as a suitable procedure for pulp separation from the raw juice. The paper discusses the results of large-scale tests of a functional model in respect of filter performance, solid concentration, solid composition, and degree of separation, as well as the implications for the management of tower diffusers.
