Continuous evaporating crystallization at low dry substance content in combination with a flash evaporating crystallization

An unconventional operating procedure was tried at the Colleville sugar factory for B product crystallization consisting of a FCB continuous evaporating crystallizer and a FCB flash evaporating crystallizer. The evaporating crystallization was done at a lower dry substance content, and the final tightening done as flash evaporating crystallization. The sugar recovery balance was clearly positive. In the evaporating crystallizer not as much sugar was crystallized as under normal operating conditions, the flash evaporating crystallizer more than made up for it. In addition, the thermal balance was very positive, with a lower D t in the evaporating crystallizer and lower steam consumption. Lastly, the evaporating crystallizer did not incrustate as quickly.
