A survey of all German sugar factories on sugar beet production technology has substantially improved the information on current cultivation practices. This paper discusses the most important results in various areas of sugar beet production and presents them in graphic form. The figures for the most part represent estimates and cannot be regarded as data from an investigation based on statistical principles. They nevertheless allow regional comparisons and the further development of advisory strategies. The survey is to be repeated every two years, with the evidential value of the information being progressively improved.
