Influence of different degrees of weed cover on the yield of sugar beet

For the specific weed control in sugar beet the relation between density of weed infestation and yield losses must be known. 1996 different times of emergence and various weed densities were established in field trials at five different locations in Germany. The results demonstrate that weed control in sugar beet has to be specific for each location and a certain infestation of weed could be tolerated. At the same locations it was possible to control weeds with only one or two applications.
