Dynamic simulation of an RT extractor

The dynamic simulation of an RT extractor is quite a complex task because, in the beet sugar industry, there is no dynamic modeling and simulation tool which provides it. On other hand, to develop a dynamic simulation model of this process unit in a general-purpose modeling and simulation tool is also quite complex. This is due to the distributed nature of the system, the shortage of data of the variables inside it and the difficulty of making significant experiments in the real process without changing the normal working of the production process. So, in this article, it is described how a first principle dynamic model of an RT extractor is carried out, establishing the modeling assumptions and changing the original formulation, in partial differential equations, into a set of coupled differential algebraic equations. Finally, it is briefly described how the model was implemented in a general purpose object-oriented dynamic modeling language for hybrid systems, its parameterization and its subsequent qualitative validation.
