Agricultural extension services: Looking back on more than 30 years of successful work

German sugar beet growers at the beginning of the 1960s operated under unfavourable conditions, such as high wage costs, poor seed quality and excessive nitrogenous fertilizer application. The agricultural extension services introduced in response can look back on great success in the intervening years. This was achieved not least because of the close cooperation with economic institutions. The work focused on fertilizer application and the problems of dirt tare. Lower harvesting costs and better beet quality demonstrate the productiveness of agricultural extension services.
