Over 400 participants at the 7th ESST/VDZ Conference

Bram Fetter, President of the Eurropean Society for Sugar Technology, and Harald Powitz, the President of Verein Deutscher Zuckertechniker, closed on Wednesday, 25 May 2022, the 7th ESST/VDZ Conference & Exhibition in Reims, France. The three-day meeting was highly successful as sugar technologists from 24 countries could meet for the first time face-to-face after the Corona pandemic. With over 400 participants and 56 exhibitors the conference was the largest conference ESST and VDZ ever organized. The conference program consisted of 27 oral presentations, 7 short presentations with poster and 15 posters.

During the last Session Nico Antens of Cosun Beet Company was awarded the Best Paper Award for his presentation of “Flash cooling crystallization: a novel technology for the sugar industry?”. At the conference dinner on the previous night Jan L. M. Struijs received the prestigious ESST Science Award from Piotr Wawro, President of the Scientific Committee of ESST. The next ESST/VDZ conference will take place from 5 to 8 May 2024 and will be organized by VDZ Süd and the Austrian Fachverein.
