Dr. rer. nat. Herbert Wesner died on November 25 at the age of 79. He was the former CEO of Agrana Zucker GmbH, Austria, the former Chairman of the Association of Austrian Sugar Factories (Fachverein) and a former member of the Board of the German Sugar Technologists Association (VDZ).
Herbert Wesner 1945–2024In August 1973, Wesner joined the Leopoldsdorf sugar factory as a plant assistant. After further positions at the Dürnkrut and Hohenau sugar factories, he was assistant to the management of the former Sugana Zucker-GmbH from 1982 to 1985. After the merger of the Austrian sugar factories in 1988, he became plant manager in Hohenau and then in Tulln (until February 28, 1999). At the same time, he was technical director of the entire Agrana sugar group.
From 1994, Wesner was managing director of Agrana Zucker GmbH and the sugar factory in Tulln. At the same time, he was a member of the management boards of Agrana’s sugar subsidiaries in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. In June 2004 he was appointed CEO of the Agrana Sugar Division. He retired on December 31, 2007.
