Transfer of knowledge and structure of extension service in sugarbeet in Germany

Innovations in sugarbeet production are initiated and promoted by government institutions and the sugar economy as a whole. Results of basic and adapted research are put into practice by extension services. Official services and those of the sugar economy together develop advisory strategies and programme on a regional basis. Jointly headed organizations of the sugar economy and beet growers associations in the north, south and west regions coordinate the extension services. Field trials are carried out by nine working groups. Items and methods of field trials are planned and evaluated by the Coordination Board at the Institute for Sugar Beet Research.
