We followed the influence of the content of saccharose in milk of lime on the purifying effect of sugar beet juice, filtrating rate of I. saturated muddy juice and colour of thin juice. It was found that a higher content of saccharose in milk of lime used in purification has no unfavourable consequence. On the contrary, up to a certain concentration of saccharose (about 15 %) a marked positive influence was observed. An increase of saccharose content in milk of lime above this concentration causes however a decrease of purifying effect, a slowing down of filtration on 1st carbonatation juice and also a colour increase of thin juice. The content of pectin substances in thin juice however constantly decreases with the content of saccharose in milk of lime.
The changes which occur in the clarification of sugar beet juice with lime with differing saccharose content must also be taken into consideration in D-V preliming in counter-current system or in purifications with partial addition of lime.
