Process automation with the new DCI System Six process control system in Südzucker’s Zeitz factory

Fischer & Porter Systemtechnik was commissioned in April 1992 to supply and install the metrological equipment for the Zeitz factory of Südzucker with an additional decentralized process control system. The paper describes the basic design of the Zeitz factory and the overall metrological and control concept, with details of the installed measuring and control devices, assembly plan, bus system and its components, DCU 3200 computer, operating and monitoring station, processing of inputs and outputs, control and electronics centre, engineering, assembly, testing, and startup. The period of about 16 months between placing of the order and startup was utilized well by Südzucker’s Zeitz factory and the specialist suppliers with the result that the preliminary thick juice campaign started on time at the beginning of September 1993.
