Thermal conditions for the silo storage of white sugar and dried pulp pellets (Review)

This paper describes the technical phenomena occurring in the storage in tower silos of white sugar and pulp pellets, both hygroscopic materials. It looks at the physico-technical principles of moisture incorporation and presents the isotherms of sorption. In the case of sugar, distinctions must be drawn between free moisture, bound moisture and internal moisture, only free moisture being amenable to removal. The authors list the technical possibilities of conditioning and provide an overview of the volume flow data found in the literature for silo ventilation.
