Danish measures to reduce the incidence of beet soil

For Danish sugar factories, like their counterparts elsewhere, disposal of the soil delivered together with the beets poses an ever greater problem. The customary wet handling, soil deposit and cleaning of the flume and wash water are unlikely to be feasible in the future. Precleaning with cleaner-loaders and the project “Clean Beets” are among the measures being pursued in search of alternatives. The main aim is to receive beets free of soil, stones and trash, which can be sliced without further preparation.
