Heat transfer in circulation evaporators

CSM Suiker of the Netherlands has in its factories quintuple evaporator stations consisting entirely of Robert circulation evaporators. Thought is being given to enlarging these stations to six or seven effects and possibly replacing the Robert circulation evaporators by other types. With the aid of the Chen model and the Nusselt equation, and incorporating operational results, a model to calculate the heat transfer coefficient is developed, which shows good agreement between theoretical values and those observed under factory conditions.
