In 1997 at Göttingen in 2 field trials two sugarbeet-varieties with different susceptibility had been inoculated with Ramularia beticola either in different concentrations or at different times respectively. The varieties differed in disease severity at harvest time. The different concentrations of inoculum had no influence on disease severity within the varieties. White sugar yield was more affected by higher concentrations of inoculum. The different times of inoculation had a low influence on disease severity of the susceptible variety and no influence on disease severity of the tolerant one. The different times of inoculation had a large influence on the white sugar yield of the susceptible variety and a low influence on the white sugar yield of the tolerant one.
