Crop production in 2020: Food – environment – agriculture

The challenges and opportunities likely to face global crop production in the next 25 years are described. Several examples are presented to show the opportunities offered by plant biotechnology and genetics to increase the productivity and economic efficiency of crop production. Also discussed are the resulting opportunities for a steadily higher-yielding and more environment-friendly agriculture.
