PSS-MCX: Gel permeation systems for oligo- and polysaccharide analysis

Chromatographic quality control of oligo- and polysaccharides (dextrans, starches, etc.) and their derivatives is done in aqueous gel permeation chromatography systems. Crucial for the effectiveness of the analysis is the selection of an appropriate GPC column system. This article looks at properties and applications in the case of PSS-MCX, a newly developed series of polymeric, sulfonated, high- performance GPC columns. The discussion is limited to GPC quality control applications. In certain circumstances, ion exchange separations (HPLC) can also be used to separate different mono- and disaccharides.
